I have to admit, I am. I got really upset yesterday, well not just yesterday; it’s been building for some time. Specifically, I’m angry that we have succumbed to the pressure and have allowed fear to displace our faith and we slowly give up our freedoms that our forefathers sacrificed and died to preserve for us.

God’s Word for Sunday was from Romans 12:1-2, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

Why was I angry? We, as believers, are being conformed to this world instead of standing on our faith. We have allowed our fear to displace faith and we are becoming conformed to this world, instead of being transformed by our faith into what God wants us to be at this present time. We have stopped teaching Sunday School, we stopped prayer meetings, and some of our churches have even stopped singing praises to the Lord for fear of an invisible virus. Even though much of the reporting of the COVID 19 is geared and framed to keep us fearful so that internal enemies of our country can gain power. We do not even push back against this attack, instead retreat into our homes. Those I have looked to for powerful faith now seem anemic and powerless. Even some churches are not even meeting during this time and we have allowed our fear dictate the terms instead of our faith. Why haven’t we started online Sunday Schools? Why haven’t we looked for alternative ways to express our faith instead of sequestering ourselves in our homes? Why are we not meeting in our churches praying for God to move during these extreme times? For fear, we closed schools, we stopped worship services, choirs are not silent and we stopped spreading the Word of God because our fear is now more powerful than our faith.

So, I am angry. Angry because I believe in a powerful God that can conquer all fear and can protect us even from COVID 19! But today so few Christians are showing that they have the same faith in God as we should. I will be praying in my church on Wednesday evening, even if I’m by myself. Praying that God will sweep this calamity from us; praying that we can still lift up Christ and draw all men and women to Him. Praying that we, as believers, do not waist this time of crisis when people are looking for answers; that we will start giving them the Answer. Let’s pray at Calvary.
