Good Income and Still on the Edge

January 31st, 2010

My good friend was recently laid off from his well paying white collar executive position at a large multi-national corporation.  I do not want to name the corporation but I will say that we all thought she would be insulated from the global down economy.  She is now full time busy with an unexpected new job and maybe a new career search.  This just goes to show that everybody is at risk these days.

My friend was doing really well and unfortunately for her, never gave the immediate future any thought as to her basic economic survival.  She had a big mortgage and two car payments and now finds herself out of work.  She was lucky enough to have received a small severance package but she figures she has only three months before she needs to have a new job.

She has checked around and is currently working with a headhunter because she has never before found herself in this position since she graduated from university easily twenty plus years ago.  This is the real scary stuff of these times we live in.  We take for granted our life and it is something that we do not realize the precipitous razors edge we all exist on.
